Ranjit Section wins RIMC Inter Section English Debate

Dehradun, 11 Feb: Ranjit Section lifted the Inter Section English Debate Trophy after a long time to start the term on a high note. It has been years of domination by Pratap and Chandragupta Sections on the first cup of the Spring Term. The jinx was broken when Ranjit Section won the Seniors’ category and were Runners up in the Juniors. The debate was conducted in two phases. In the Juniors’ Category, the finals were held in Modified Oxford Pattern, while the Senior Debates were held in the Modified Parliamentary format. The Senior debates were held in two rounds - Pratap versus Chandragupta and Ranjit versus Shivaji. Pratap and Ranjit qualified for the Final Round, respectively, from their pools. The Final Rounds were held in the evening with the Juniors Debate being conducted first. The Junior debaters gave an excellent account of themselves and had an engrossing exchange on the topic, “Advertising Creates Artificial Needs”. It was followed by the Senior debaters proving their points on the topic, “India has a Democratic System but not Democratic Values”. The Individual Prizes won by the cadets were: Juniors - Best Speaker, Cadet Ambuj Sen Patra; Second Best Speaker, Cadet Aman Vashist; Best Team, Shivaji Section. In the Seniors category, Best Speaker (Preliminaries) was Cadet Vijayant Rana; Best Speaker (Finals), Cadet Vijayant Rana; Best Team: Ranjit Section. The Overall Standings were: I - Ranjit Section; II - Shivaji Section; III - Pratap Section; IV - Chandragupta Section. The Chief Guest was DS Negi, Principal, KV-ONGC. He was impressed by the quality of the debate and motivated the cadets to keep improving themselves. The judges for the evening were Neelam Ojha, Anita Singh and Rohini Puri. They also commended the cadets on their performance. RIMC Commandant Col HS Bainsla proposed the vote of thanks.
