Police conduct raid against illegal mining

Dehradun, 11 Feb: Taking action on the continuous complaints of illegal mining of minor minerals, a team conducted a raid on the permitted area for mining by the Forest Development Corporation in Doiwala under the leadership of DIG Sanjay Gunjyal, who heads the Illegal Mining Monitoring Unit. The team discovered illegal mining and made recovery from the drivers of tractors and other vehicles as transportation charges and for plying without proper registration. It recovered 23 thousand cubic metres of illegal minor minerals, on which tax amounting to Rs 75 lakh was calculated. This was the direct revenue loss to government. The team also impounded three tractor trolleys that were transporting minerals from Song river and many other vehicles. Irregularities were found in a big way in the entry and exit registers of Doiwala Forest Development Corporation. The team has ceased the documents for detailed investigation and filed an FIR at Doiwala police station in the matter.
