DEHRADUN, 20 Feb: Chief Minister BC Khanduri visited the Himalayan Hospital in Jolly Grant, on Monday, to enquire about the welfare of students of the Maharana Pratap Sports College who were injured in the blast in the College premises on Sunday.
The Chief Minister met a severely injured student, Sagar, in the ICU and inquired about his welfare, and also visited other injured students including Shalu, Rahul Kumar, and Sachin, among others. On the occasion, the Chief Minister promised their families all possible medical assistance. He also sought information on medical treatment being given to the injured students from the hospital doctors including Orthopedic Surgeon Dr Atul Agarwal, and Plastic Surgeon Dr Manu Rajan. He told the hospital management to give best possible medical treatment to the students and directed them to realise the expenses incurred on their treatment from the Government.
Khanduri assured family members of the students that the State Government was fully with them in their hour of crisis, and that it would extend all possible assistance to them. Later, the Chief Minister visited the Doon Hospital to meet a few more students who are admitted there. He discussed issues related to medical treatment being given to the injured from the Orthopedic Surgeon Dr SK Gupta, and Medical Superintendent Dr KC Pant. He also talked to some of the family members present there.
The Chief Minister said that in case it was felt necessary to send any student to a higher referral centre, then the expenses would be borne by the State Government. Besides, he also assured financial assistance to the affected families who were economically backward.
He said that directions had been issued to the Management and Director of the Maharana Pratap Sports College, as well as the Secretary, Sports, on precautionary measures so as to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future. He said that directions had also been issued on sending the hostel warden along with the students during their outings.
Chief Minister Khanduri also asked Sports Minister Khajan Das and Director, Sports, NS Negi to make available the review reports on the incident, today, itself.
Those who were present along with the Chief Minister included Officiating District Magistrate Sushil Kumar, and others.
Later, Sports Minister Khajan Das held a meeting with the officials of Sports Department to discuss ways and means to put a check on such incidents.
