Inter-academia sports fest ‘Khelutsav 2019’ concludes successfully at UPES

DEHRADUN, 13 Mar: The 1st Edition of the Inter-academia Sports Fest ‘Khelutsav 2019’ concluded successfully at the UPES. The two-day sports meet was organized by the Department of ‘Student Engagement & Experience’ (SEE), UPES to promote physical exercise as an essential part of mental & psychological well-being amongst the students. Twenty-one academic institutions from Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh & Delhi participated in the event.
Briefing on the event, Arun Dhand – Sr. Director, Public Affairs UPES shared that ‘Khelutsav 2019’ received an overwhelming response with the participation of teams from 21 universities & colleges viz. Uttaranchal Institute of Technology, Uttaranchal University; Tula’s Institute; Women Institute of Technology; DAV (PG) College; MKP (PG) College; Doon University; Gyani Inder Singh Institute of Professional Studies; Dolphin (PG) Institute Of Biomedical & Natural Sciences; Graphic Era University; Jaspal Rana Institute of Education & Technology; Graphic Era Hill University; GRD Institute of Management & Technology; The ICFAI University; Baba Farid Institute of Technology; Institute of Technology & Management; Dev Bhoomi Institute of Technology; Sardar Bhagwan Singh University & UPES from Uttarakhand along with the teams from Zakir Husain Delhi College, Delhi & Maharaja Agarsen College, Himachal Pradesh. “The event was conceptualized to promote sports for fitness amongst students as only a healthy body can sustain a healthy mind. I am delighted that the fest attracted a participation of around 700 students” Mr. Dhand shared.
Inaugurating the fest, Dr. Deependra Jha – Vice Chancellor UPES declared it “OPEN’ and extended a warm welcome to all the participating teams and guest students. Dr. Jha urged the students to inculcate a habit of participation in physical sports & games to ensure good health with fit bodies. “The present day technology has trapped the youth within the four walls contended with their most prized possession – their smartphones. The students need to include some sporting activities & outdoor games in their routine for their good health & fitness” Dr. Jha said. Mishra, Faculty Convener ‘Khelutsav’ and many other faculty & staff members graced the inaugural ceremony with their presence
In his address, Karan Singh shared the importance of sportsmanship with the participants. He advised them to observe the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the event while also ensuring their personal safety. “Sportsman spirit not only helps us in accepting ones success with modesty but it also strengthens us to cope with disappointments that cross our paths due to failures. I wish you good luck and look forward to good performances” he further said. Announcing the results, Mishra congratulated the winners on their achievements and encouraged the other participants to prepare well the next time and claim their place on the winner podium. Maharaja Agarsen College, Himachal Pradesh were the ‘Winners’ in Volleyball (Men) while the host team ‘UPES’ were ‘Runner-ups’; in Volleyball (Women), DAV (PG) College, Dehradun lifted the ‘Winners’ Trophy while Team Uttaranchal University had to contend with the ‘Runners-up’ Award; amongst other events, K. Sanjay & Shahzeb Rizvi, both from UPES, claimed the Winner & Runner-up Trophies in Chess; Basketball (Men) Winners – Tula’s Institute, Dehradun & Runners-up – Graphic Era University, Dehradun; Basketball (Women) Winners – DAV (PG) College & Runners-up – UPES; Table Tennis (Men) Winners – DAV (PG) College & Runners-up – Graphic Era University; Table Tennis (Women) Winners – UPES & Runners-up – Doon University; Badminton (Men) Winners – DAV (PG) College & Runners-up – Jaspal Rana Institute of Education & Technology; Badminton (Women) Winners – Graphic Era University & Runners-up – DBIT;
While in Cricket ‘Team UPES’ were the Winners & ‘Team DBIT’ were the Runners-up and in Football Cricket ‘Team UPES’ lifted the Winner’s Trophy & ‘Team Graphic Era University’ were Runners-up.
During the ‘Prize Distribution Ceremony’ Dr. Veena Dutta & Karan Singh presented cash prizes of over 1.25 lakhs & ‘Team Trophies’ to the winning Teams along with individual medals & certificates to the winners and ‘Participation Certificates’ to the participants in the presence of Amarveer Saxena, Ashutosh Dora, Rashmi Lall, Nimisha & Gautam. Thanking all the teams for their participation & good performances, Karan Singh further utilized the opportunity to congratulate A.P. Semwal and his team for organizing ‘KHELUTSAV 2019’ successfully.
