International Conference on Green Chemistry & Technology held at Uttaranchal University

Dehradun, 28 Nov: A two-day International Conference on Green Chemistry & Technology was organised by College of Applied and Life Sciences of Uttaranchal University on 27-28 November. The Conference was inaugurated by Jitendra Joshi, Chancellor, Prof NK Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Dr Ajay Singh, Principal, Dr SD Sharma (DDG-ICFRE), Chief Guest, Dr Vilaskin Mikhain (Professor-Russian Academy of Science, Moscow), Dr Dhavendra Kumar (Cardiff University, United Kindom), Dr YS Negi ( Professor, Head-IPT, Polymer Sc-IIT Roorkee), Dr RK Jain (Technical Expert-UNIDO, New Delhi) and Dr N Vishwanadham (IIP).

Vice Chancellor Prof NK Joshi delivered the inaugural lecture on the significance of organising the conference. He briefed delegates on the present scenario pertaining to conservation of natural resources and how technological advancements in green chemistry could contribute to sustainable development. Dr Ajay Singh, Principal, UCALS, Convenor and Conference Chair, in his welcome address introduced the guest, invited speakers and the delegates who participated in this conference from different countries.

Dr Dhavendra Kumar delivered the first invited talk on applied genome biotechnology in latest diagnosis and treatment. Dr Vilaskin Mikhain in his keynote lecture emphasised how aluminium based fuel could be generated in the future. He described how developed countries plan and execute research over a 10-20 years perspective. Dr Y S Negi gave his talk on applications and future prospects of green technology.

Chief Guest Dr SD Sharma spoke about the environment in India and the world.

Prof RK Jain explained utilisation of biopolymers in ecofriendly lubes’ additive development through organic transformations. Dr N Vishwanadham, Professor, IIP, spoke about technological advancements in bio-fuel and catalysts.

Dr MSM Rawat (Ex-VCm HNB Garhwal University) described the principles of green chemistry. Dr Vineet Mehrotra (SRHU), Dr Vinit Kumar (Professor, HOD-Chemistry-FRI University), discussed the fundamentals of analytical techniques and green methods of technology.

The conference was organised with the association of Elsevier-USA, UCOST-UK, American Chemical Society (USA) and Hi-Media. Mona, Country Manager for India from American Chemical Society (USA) announced the formation of a Dehradun Chapter at Uttaranchal University. Free membership was provided to delegates of the conference.

In the Poster Presentation, Saurabh (IIP) was given the Young Scientist Award for his research paper. The second prize was given to Pallavi Dhir (SGRR). The third prize went to Asifa and Uma Goswami (UU).

In the Oral Presentation, Dr Ravinder Singh (ICAR-Karnal) was awarded the Young Scientist Award for his research paper. Dr Avinash Bhake (Engineering College, Nagpur) and Dr Surbhi Sagar were second and third.

This conference was organised by Principal of Applied Science Dr Ajay Singh (Conevenor & Conference Chair), Dr Vinod Kumar (Organising Secretary), Dr Nishesh Sharma, and Dr Rohit Sharma (Joint Secretary). Other members were Dr VK Srivastava, Dr BS Rawat, Dr Poonam Negi, Dr Bharti Ramola, Dr Naveen Kumar and Dr NC Joshi.
