DEHRADUN, 4 Dec: To create awareness on ‘Minimally Invasive Cardiac Procedures & Advances in Cardiac Surgery’, a team of doctors from Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, addressed media persons, here, today. Present on the occasion were Dr Ravi Kumar Singh, CTVS Surgeon, Dr Sandeep Singh Tanwar, Vice President, Operations and Unit Head, and Dr Rahul Prashad, Medical Superintendent.
Dr Ravi Kumar Singh said that around 32 million Indians suffer from Heart Disease. Over the past 3-4 years, Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) or keyhole surgery has grown in popularity in certain cases because of the benefits such as cosmetic benefits, decreased pain, and reduced surgical trauma and reduced hospital stay.
He also shared that conventional bypass surgery (CABG) or any valve surgery is performed by splitting or cutting through a 10 inch cut on the breastbone or sternum. Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) is safe and has completely revolutionised the way heart surgeries are performed. It is a relatively new and advanced technique of performing coronary bypass surgery for coronary artery disease, any valve surgery and some congenital heart disease surgeries. In this technique, the heart is approached through the side of the chest (left or right) or front via a small 2-3 inch incision depending on the type of heart surgery. The chest is entered between the ribs without cutting any bones and by splitting the muscle. Similar to a regular heart surgery, the operations are equally good and safe.
Speaking about the benefits of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, he elaborated, “Unlike traditional heart surgery, the patient can soon get back to the normal routine after MICS. The blood loss is almost negligible in most cases, hence eliminating blood borne infection or post-surgical lung infection. The procedure is ideal in diabetics and older patients who have poor resistance to infection.”
Dr Sandeep Singh Tanwar added, “We are proud to announce Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, MICS, for the first time in Uttarakhand. This procedure ensures faster recovery. Faster recovery results in reduced hospital stays with reduced expenses and bills. We have started this service keeping in mind the increase in heart illnesses and Coronary Artery Disease in this region.”
He added, “Successful angioplasties and angiographies are being done at Max Hospital Dehradun. We are always ready and equipped to provide Cardiac Emergency care to any patient who arrives at the hospital.”
