Mussoorie, 9 Feb: Homeless people of the town protested against the Nagar Palika Parishad at LKD Road in Landour, today. The homeless people gathered at Picture Palace Chowk under the leadership of Kedar Singh Chauhan and raised slogans against the Palika administration and the chairman. A memorandum on the subject was also sent to Union Urban Development Minister, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and the District Magistrate, Dehradun, through the SDM demanding an inquiry into the functioning of the Nagar Palika under the leadership of Manmohan Singh Mall, and also to instruct the Executive Officer to withdraw the decision on cancelling the list of 96 people to whom flats had been allotted, so that the rights of poor workers could be protected. Kedar Singh Chauhan, while speaking to media persons, said that the proposal to construct 96 flats at LKD Road was approved by the Union Government in 2010. These were to cost about Rs 4.25 crores. Till now, only 24 flats had been constructed and the rest had been cancelled. According to Manmohan Singh Mall, no more flats could be constructed as there was no land, because there was hard rock in the remaining land. He said that Mall’s excuse was false as the said project had been prepared by an engineer sent by the central government after inspecting the land. He alleged that the Nagar Palika was violating all the laws, so an inquiry ought to be carried out by a high investigating agency. Present on the occasion were Soban Singh, Vikram Singh Baloni, Hardev Singh, Makhani Devi, Rajeshwari, Shashi Devi, Virender Singh, Mangal Singh and others.
