Taekwondo finals held at Khel Mahakumbh

DEHRADUN, 21 Jan: The U-17, 19 category contests for boys and girls in Taekwondo and Boxing were held today in the fourth phase of the Khel Mahakumbh organised by the ‘Yuva Kalyan evam Prantiya Rakshak Dal Department’.
The Taekwondo events took place at the Multi-Purpose Hall in the premises of the Youth Welfare Directorate, here, while boxing contests were held at the Boxing Hall of the Maharana Pratap Sports College.
In the semi-finals of the U-19 46-49 kg weight class for boys, Champawat’s Deepak Kumar beat Haridwar’s Aman Saini, 5-0, and entered the final. In the same class, Amit Bisht of Nainital got the better of Prem Singh, Pauri, 5-0. In the 49-52 kg class, Pankaj of Udham Singh Nagar beat Haridwar’s Shadab Ali, 5-0, to enter the final. In the class, Ashish of Dehradun beat Virendra Singh of Nainital. In the 52-56 kg class, Tashid Ali of Haridwar beat Sanjay Bisht of Dehradun, 3-2. In the same class, Kamal Singh of US Nagar beat Vijay Kumar of Champawat, 3-2, to enter the final.
In the 56-60 kg class, Dheeraj Singh Mehra of US Nagar beat Nainital’s Vivek Mehta, 4-1 to enter the final. In the same class, Anil Chaudhary of Haridwar beat Champawat’s Kapil Bora, 5-0.
In the Under-17 boys’ category semi-finals of the 46-48 kg class, Dehradun’s Deepak Kumar knocked out Ayush Kumar of Pauri to enter the final. Pithoragarh’s Karan Mahar beat Udham Singh Nagar’s Bhagwan Singh, 3-0. In the 48-50 kg class, Ravindra Parihar of Pithoragarh beat Nainital’s Yogesh Rawat, 3-0 to enter the final.
In the U-14 boys’ category, 34-36 kg class, US Nagar’s Shivam knocked out Pauri’s Rohit Chauhan to enter the final. Pithoragarh’s Aditya Tamta also knocked out Nainital’s Sumit. In the 36-38 kg class, Tanuj Singh of Champawat kayoed Chamoli’s Abhay Bisht.
In the Taekwondo Championship at the Nanurkheda Multi-Purpose Hall, Under-17 girls’ category 35-38 kg class, Vishakha of Bageshwar beat Dehradun’s Kirti to win the Gold Medal. In third place were Yashwasi Purohit, Chamoli, and Kumkum Srivastava, US Nagar. In the 42-44 kg class, Sakshi Bisht of Nainital beat Priti of Pithoragarh to win the Gold. Gargi Rathore, Dehradun, and Pragya Vora, Pithoragarh took the Bronze Medals.
In the U-19 boys’ category 45 kg class, Lalit Dhami beat Champawat’s Nitin Kumar to take the Gold Medal. Anuj Bhatt, Almora, and Neeraj Singh, Bageshwar, took the Bronze Medals. In the U-48 kg class, Anil Dev, Bageshwar, beat Nainital’s Ayush to win the Gold. Almora’s Mukesh was in third place.
Present on the occasion were Youth Welfare Jt Director RC Dimri, Dy Director Ajay Kumar Agarwal, Shakti Singh, SK Jairaj, Neeraj Gupta, SK Sarki, etc. The boxing judges included Priyanka, Rekha Pandya, Hem Upadhyay, Mohan Gaur, BS Rawat, Umesh Arya, Ravindra Singh, while those in Taekwondo were Shashikant, Vipin Rawat, Bhim, Pramod, Asit Thakur, Vijay Prasad Thakur, Vijay Prasad Khushi and Abhishek Joshi.
