Almora, 27 Dec: The 102nd birth anniversary of freedom fighter, the late Jogaram was celebrated with great pomp in his native village Natadol, Motipathar Constituency, Jageshwar. On this occasion, a resolution was taken to follow his ideals. A programme was organised at Natadol Primary School by the Arya family and his daughter, Asha Lal.
Chief Guest and Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, Special Guest, former MLA, Jageshwar, former Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, Asha Lal (Vice President of Freedom Fighters’ Successor Cell, Congress, and Secretary, Uttarakhand Congress), Awadhesh Pant (General Secretary, Freedom Fighters’ Successor Cell) paid homage to him. Jogaram fought for the uplift of the deprived class and equality in society. During the Quit India Movement, he inspired people in the mountains to join. He was tortured by the British but continued his fight for freedom. After independence, he held various positions in Congress. He worked for the deprived class till his last breath.
On this occasion, his sons Ramesh Chandra Arya, Indra Lal Arya, his son-in-law Madan Lal, his grandsons Aditya Mihir, Mukesh Kumar, Manohar Lal, Devesh Kumar, granddaughter Vimala, daughters Kamala Arya and Asha Lal pledged to follow his ideals.
The programme was conducted by K Arya (nephew of Jogaram). On this occasion, Amar Singh Thithonla, Tulsi Arya, Diwan Satwal, Vimala Arya, Saraswati Arya, Jayanti Arya, Congress leader Diwan Singh Satwal, Ramesh Malkani, Shivram, Shobha Tamta Geeta, Khushi, etc., also were present. Blankets and woollen clothes were distributed among the poor families of the village. Jogaram will always be remembered as the messiah of the poor and the deprived. The villagers put forward a demand to install his statue in the village.
