Landour Cantt celebrates Defence Estate Day

MUSSOORIE, 16 Dec: Landour Cantonment Board celebrated its 8th Defence Estate Day, here, today. Chief Guest Dr Sanjay, Ortho Specialist, and Mussoorie Cantonment Vice-President Mahesh Chand jointly lit the ceremonial lamp. Badri Kedar Sanskrit Kala Samiti presented a cultural programme which enthralled the audience present. On the occasion, retired employees of the Cantonment along with the presently best employees were felicitated with presentation of a shawl and memento, each. Dr Sanjay said that there are about 68 cantonment areas in India. Mussoorie had a special place among them. Mussoorie Cantonment was quite beautiful and clean. He further made everyone aware of the need for cleanliness. He called upon all people to be aware of their health by undertaking daily exercise. Vice President Mahesh Chand said that 16 December was the Raising Day of the Cantonments, which is celebrated across the 68 establishments across the country. In the same context, Defence Estate Day was also celebrated in Mussoorie with great pomp. He said that the tenure of the present Board was coming to an end. He expressed confidence that the people of the Cantonment were happy with the work done by him and councilors. He was hopeful that during the coming elections, the public would once again give them the chance to serve. Councilor Pushpa Padiyar also addressed the gathering. The main objective of the day was to bring the civilian population closer to the persons from the armed forces and create better interaction between them. The programme was conducted by cCouncilor Sushil Aggarwal. Present were Cantonment Council members Chandrakala Sayana, Ramesh Kanaujia, Jagjit Kukreja, Avtar Kukreja, Narendra Padiyar, Sunil Panwar, Leela Kandari, Kamal Sarma, Promila Negi with staff members of cantonment council.
