Dehradun, 11 Jul: The Motorcycle Expedition which commenced on 6 July from Mana, ‘The last Indian village’, reached Dehradun. What better way to commemorate 20 years of victory in the Kargil war than meeting the Gentlemen Cadets of the Indian Military Academy, the future leaders of the Army? The Expedition team showcased the heroic acts of Capt Vikram Batra, PVC (P), and Sub Sanjay Kumar, through a presentation and videos to motivate the Gentlemen Cadets and instill in them the spirit of valour and sacrifice which is the hallmark of soldiering.
The expedition’s aim is that the sacrifices of the brave souls are not forgotten over time, and the country remembers its true heroes.
The Expedition members, while interacting with the Gentlemen Cadets, reiterated that the Chetwode credo was the foundation of an officer’s life – “The Safety, Honour and Welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.”
The Gentlemen Cadets of the IMA were inspired by the interaction. The expedition moves on from here with the belief that ‘A soldier remains immortal until he is forgotten’ and living the theme of the 20th year celebration.
