5-day workshop by CSI Student Branch of GEU begins

Dehradun, 23 Nov: A five-day workshop began today at Graphic Era Deemed University on the ‘Role of Technology and Environment in Economic Prosperity and Sustainable Development’.
The workshop was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era University, Prof Dr Nagaraja, Guest Sachidanand Bharti, Dean, Engineering, Prof Dr Deepali Bansal, and Dr Devesh Pratap Singh with lighting of the lamp.
Dr Devesh Pratap welcomed those present. Vice Chancellor Prof Nagaraja, while highlighting the theme of the workshop, said that the real need for innovation in technology is for economic development as well as for environmental protection. He said that such programmes and training are organised from time to time at the university.
The keynote speaker, environmentalist Sachidanand Bharti, said that the main objective in environmental protection is water conservation. Bharti, leader of the “Pani Rakho Andolan”, said that in the remote areas of the mountain, he had personally made more than 30 thousand small and big ponds. By making such ponds, the natural sources of water that were drying up in the area were also revived. The problem of forest fires has been solved as a result. His work has been appreciated from time to time by the World Bank and the government. All the professors and students present appreciated his unique work.
Bharti added that many employment-oriented works could be undertaken in the conservation effort and through availability of water. He said that innovation can not only bring economic prosperity through technological development but sustainable development could also be achieved by protecting the environment through innovation.
The coordinator of the workshop, Ramesh Singh Rawat, said that this workshop is focused on the use of innovation and technology for environment and water conservation, organised by the Computer Society of India Student Branch and Department of Computer Science and Engineering in which engineering students develop software that can help in environmental and water conservation works.
Present at the inaugural session were Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era University, Prof Dr HN Nagaraja, Dean, Engineering, Prof Dr Deepali Bansal, Dr Devesh Pratap, Head, Computer Science, Ramesh Singh Rawat, Saurabh Mishra, Yuvraj Joshi, Someshwar Singh, Shivashish Dhoundiyal, Noor Mohammad, members of Computer Society of India branch and other students.
