Symposium on Ayurveda

DEHRADUN, 30 Dec:symposium was organized here today by Universities’ Journal of Phytochemistry and Ayurvedic Heights at the Himalaya Wellness Company. Welcoming the gathering, Dr S Farooq said that tIndia’s pharma industry is in the third position in terms of volumes worldwise, but stands at the fourth in terms of value. Interspersing his speech with a few couplets he said that with more innovation and efforts we can easily achieve to top the world. He drew a parallel to this meet on global issues with the ongoing Global Summit.  He made a reference to the Prime Minister’s idea of making Uttarakhand a destination wedding.
Speaking on this occasion as the Chief Guest, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi said that Ayurveda has been a medical system for thousands of years. He said that today there are many illnesses which are being cured by Ayurveda and that today the world has come to accept Ayurveda. Joshi said that in the history of humanity, trees and plants have been used as medicines for treatment for centuries. It is known by different names in different civilizations around the world; in India we call it AyurvedaAyurveda is India’s traditional plant-based medical system for ages. While Rigveda contains information about 99 medicinal plants, Yajurveda contains information about 82 medicinal plants and Atharvaveda contains information about 288 medicinal plants. It has been in vogue in some form or other by the people of this country.
Himmat Singh in his keynote address spoke about the use of phytochemicals and plant extraction techniques.
Guest of honour Dr Arun Kumar Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of Ayurveda University delivered a talk on the use of Ayurvedic quath during COVID-19 and use of herbs that enhanced immunity and had proven efficacy against the viral infections.
In the symposium the young scientists and students from various Universities participated and presented their research papers orally and through posters.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr IP Pandey on the conclusion of the symposium which was followed by sumptuous lunch.
Chairman Dr S Farooq, Dr Himmat Singh, Dr IP Saxena, Dr Arunima Nayak, Dr Arun K Tripathi, Dr Kuldeep Rai, Dr IP Pandey and other students were present.
