Dehradun, 3 Aug: The Dehradun Nagar Nigam has an operational Covid Vaccination Centre in its compound. Daily, around 300 vaccinations are carried out there. However, today around 300 persons who reached the Vaccination Centre at Nagar Nigam were made to wait outside the Auditorium Hall Gate which did not open even as, according to eyewitnesses, many persons were being allowed to enter with the help of some policemen posted there and got vaccinated. According to Nainika Gupta, she had pre-booked her slot for today for vaccination and reached there well before the closure time. However, she was told by others also waiting there for their turns that they had been waiting since morning but after they were made to wait for hours, they were told that vaccinations had finished. Even many who had pre-booked their slots for today were unable to get vaccinated. This led to a protest by the people who created a ruckus. Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, who is believed to have been chairing a meeting there, did not bother to come out and speak to the people, claimed the people waiting there. Finally, some health officials reached there and claimed that those who had their slots pre-booked would certainly be vaccinated. This, however, did not happen. Most people including Nainika Gupta returned without being able to get vaccinated.
Speaking to Garhwal Post, Dr RK Singh, Senior Municipal Health Officer at the Nagar Nigam, claimed that he too had heard the complaints and gone to the spot in the evening but these were not found to be true. He further claimed that even at 5 p.m., around 160 vaccinations were left in the stock and those who protested were mostly those who had not pre-booked their slots. However, those present there claimed that many of them had their slots pre-booked but were still were not allowed entry for vaccination.
