DEHRADUN, 10 Feb: BJP accused the Congress of shying away from celebrating award of Bharat Ratna to its very senior leader and former Prime Minister late PV Narsimha Rao. In a statement issued on Saturday, BJP’s State President Mahendra Bhatt welcomed the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to award PV Narsimha Rao with Bharat Ratna and claimed that the politics of Gandhi family for the hesitation among the Congress leaders to openly celebrate Bharat Ratna to their stalwart leader Narsimha Rao.
Responding to the announcement of giving the country’s highest award to former Prime Minister Rao and former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, Bhatt said that Modi government is giving priority to national contribution over differences in political ideology. Of course, late Narasimha Rao was from Congress background, but as Prime Minister he was the one to usher in economic liberalisation in India. He broke the immediate political hesitation by including India in the policy of making the world a single market. Similarly, late Chaudhary Charan Singh made revolutionary efforts to bring change in the lives of farmers and protect their rights. Therefore, awarding Bharat Ratna to both of them is a recognition of their dedicated contribution to the nation.
Bhatt observed that the State Congress leaders had not uttered a single word expressing their happiness or gratitude in this regard. He said that the ill will of Sonia Gandhi and the Gandhi family towards late Rao is well known, due to which his dead body was also not allowed to enter the Congress headquarters in Delhi before being taken to Hyderabad for cremation. As a result, no Congress leader has the courage to go against the wishes of the Gandhi family and rejoice over Bharat Ratna to the late Congress leader.  Prime Minister Modi is giving this respect to all the parties without any discrimination. Earlier, this honour was also given to former President and senior Congress leader late Pranab Mukherjee, Bhatt recalled.
