CM holds review meeting of Education, Technical Education, Skill Education depts

Dehradun, 6 May: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a review meeting of several departments at the Secretariat here today. During the meeting, the CM directed the senior officers to make sincere efforts to seriously implement whatever short term and long-term plans are being prepared by the departments for the overall development of Uttarakhand. He added that work should also be done in a planned manner to ensure that the targets set by the departments are achieved.
The CM further stated that along with working on the schemes in a phased manner, efforts should also be made to complete the projects for which the target has been set by the departments to be completed by 2025, on a priority basis, as well as to review the progress regularly.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister was today reviewing the progress of School Education, Technical Education, Higher Education, Skill Development and Sports Departments at the Secretariat.
During the review of school education, the Chief Minister instructed the officers that in the districts where students are dropping out under school education, a detailed study of the reasons for this should be conducted. Every possible effort should be made to reduce dropout of children from the schools. Continuous efforts should be made to improve the quality of education in government schools and increase the registration of students. The Chief Minister said that the work done under centrally funded schemes should be expedited. Whatever proposals are to be sent to the Central Government, should be prepared and submitted on time without any delay under any circumstances. The Chief Minister also gave instructions to make complete preparations for the development of necessary infrastructure facilities for the selected 142 schools of the state under the PMK. He said that along with school education, special attention should also be paid to vocational education. It should be ensured that all the basic facilities are available in all the schools.
During the review of the Technical Education Department, the Chief Minister directed the officials to conduct courses in polytechnic colleges and ITIs on the basis of the market demand of the time. For this, attention should be paid to continuous coordination with industrial institutions. It should be ensured that after training the students get proper placement. With special focus on modernisation of polytechnic colleges and ITIs, it should be ensured that they have skilled human resources as well as necessary equipment to train the students. Special attention should be paid to the trades in which the demand for employment has increased. The Chief Minister also gave instructions to upgrade polytechnic colleges and ITIs in a phased manner.
During the review of the Higher Education Department, the Chief Minister stressed that more efforts are needed to promote research in higher educational institutions. Work should be done expeditiously in the direction of making a research-based model college. Special attention should be paid to the compliance of the National Education Policy-2020. Along with higher education, work should also be done on promoting vocational courses. He also pointed out the need for continuous efforts to promote innovation in degree colleges.
During the review of the Skill Development and Employment Department, the Chief Minister directed that all technical institutions should be integrated on a single platform. Employment fairs should be organised regularly and also be widely publicised. He observed that the Skill Development Department can play an important role in increasing the opportunities of employment. In order to provide efficient human resources to the industries established in the state, arrangements should be made for training the youth as per the requirement of the industries.
During the review of the Sports Department, the Chief Minister directed the officers to ensure that whatever provisions have been made in the new sports policy for the convenience of the players, the players are essentially provided the benefits. These provisions should also be widely publicised by the department. He said that preparations for the proposed 38th National Games in the state in 2024 should be started from now itself. The Chief Minister has also given instructions for speedy promotion of sports activities in all the districts and to ensure availability of necessary resources.
