Mussoorie, 1 Mar: A ‘Vada Nibhao Shankhnaad Rally’ was organised by members of the 84 families that were rendered homeless 3 years ago from Shifan Court, here, seeking rehabilitation.
The rally began from Gandhi Chowk with playing of traditional musical instruments and reached the Martyrs’ Memorial via the Mall road. During the rally, the people supporting the members of the homeless people of Shifan Court shouted slogans against Municipal President Anuj Gupta and Mussoorie MLA and Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi demanding fulfillment of the promise on rehabilitation.
After the Shankhnaad rally, all the 84 evicted families and their supporters began an indefinite dharna at the memorial and raised slogans in support of their demands.
On this occasion, Congress State General Secretary Manmohan Singh and party workers also supported the 84 homeless families and demanded that the BJP government take steps for their rehabilitation. It was recalled that the promise had been made that houses would be made available to all 84 families within 15 days of their displacement but, unfortunately, even after 3 years, nothing was visible on the ground.
