Dehradun, 31 Aug: Insiders in BJP have claimed that around a dozen party MLAs are not happy with the government and have held several meetings at the MLAs’ Hostel in Race Course, here, to chalk out their strategy. Though overtly they are claiming that some officers are not cooperating with the elected MLAs and delaying development projects in their respective constituencies, the actual reasons seem to be more political than these MLAs are willing to officially admit.
The dissenters are currently being led by senior party MLA Bishan Singh Chufal, who has not only been a cabinet minister but also BJP State President. He has never lost any assembly election since the time of undivided UP. However, Chufal’s claim to a cabinet minister’s position was this time ignored by the present BJP leadership in the state and that remains a reason why Chufal has expressed his anguish over some issues with the leadership.
Following the untimely demise of Cabinet Minister Prakash Pant, last year in April, district Pithoragarh became unrepresented in government. Then, too, Chufal had lobbied for the post. Despite the fact that Pithoragarh is one of the smallest districts in the state and several other districts have remained unrepresented, the political stature of Chufal in the BJP can be gauged from the fact that, in Khanduri’s cabinet, he was a cabinet minister along with Prakash Pant also from the same district.
Sources claimed that among those unhappy with the government, more are from the Kumaon region and include Surendra Singh Jeena, who has also been winning continuous elections and is considered by many to have the potential to be in the top league of leaders from the state in the near future.
