Dolphin Institute holds Seminar on International Mosquito Day

Dehradun, 20 Aug: Dolphin (PG) Institute of Biomedical & Natural Sciences organised one day Seminar on Mosquito Awareness on the occasion of International Mosquito Day, here, today.
The programme was inaugurated with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr Vijay Veer, ex-Director, DRDO. In his speech, he summarised the atmospheric conditions necessary for mosquito breeding and the various species of mosquitoes. He also described diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunia and yellow fever, their signs and how to control the said diseases.
On the occasion, a short film related to mosquitoes and their behaviour was also shown to the students, which was appreciated by one and all.
Dr Shailja Pant, Principal, also shared the bad effects and diseases spread by the mosquitoes. Dr Beena Joshi Bhatt, HOD, Zoology, highlighted the need for the seminar. The President of the Pradhan Sangathan of Sahaspur Block said that they were making the people aware and working on elimination of mosquitoes in their villages for the last 3-4 months.
A slogan competition was also organised for the students of the institute as well for the students of Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Manduwala, on Mosquito awareness in the programme. The winners of the slogan competition were awarded with the first, second and third prizes by the guests. Photo and poster presentations were also arranged by the Department of Zoology to generate awareness among people about the diseases spread by mosquitoes.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Deepali Rana, senior faculty of the Zoology Department.
Faculty members Dr Dinesh Bhardwaj, Dr Tripti Malik Ahuja, DSW Vipul Garg, lab technician of the Zoology Department Narendra Singh Rawat, Gram Pradhans Pradeep Yadav, Rakesh Pundir, Rajkumar Rautela were among those present along with 150 students of the institute.
