Garhwal University holds training in horticulture techniques for villagers

Srinagar (Garhwal), 23 Aug: Under motivational direction of Prof Annapurna Nautiyal, Vice Chancellor, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University, the Department of Horticulture has organised a series of trainings and workshops in the month of August 2022 for creating interest in the horticulture sector among rural women with the aim to enhance their livelihood and also in the interest of horticulture development in the state.

A series of workshops are being conducted in the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, Chauras Campus, under the HMNEH project funded by the Department of Horticulture and Food Processing, Government of Uttarakhand. In this series, the second one-day farmer training and demonstration workshop was organised, today, under the project, in which more than 60 rural women farmers from various villages of district Tehri Garhwal participated and benefitted.

VC Professor Annapurna Nautiyal was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Apart from giving hands-on training and making the farmers aware of the different scientific methods of horticultural techniques, they were also provided high quality vegetable and horticultural plants during the workshop.

Professor Annapurna Nautiyal, while addressing the farmers, said that the horticulture department of the university has always been in the forefront of providing training, from time to time, to rural women working in the field of horticulture in the latest methods of horticulture, so that they would be able to increase their livelihood and enhance annual income.

The Workshop Convenor and Assistant Professor, Dr Tejpal Singh Bisht, made the farmers aware of the latest methods of horticulture as well as stressed upon them to adopt Horticulture Central Farming System, the only way to achieve the goal of doubling the income.

At the end of the programme, a tree plantation programme was successfully carried out by the guests, and seeds of various vegetables and ornamental plants were distributed to the cultivators.
