Gov Maurya seeks expansion of honey production at Raj Bhawan

DEHRADUN, 22 Apr: As much as 41 kilos of honey was extracted, today, from honeycombs taken from 4 beehive boxes installed at the Raj Bhawan, here. The Mellifera species of honey bees have been kept at the Raj Bhawan.
On the occasion, Governor Baby Rani Maurya directed that the number of beehives be increased next year. She said that at least 15-20 boxes needed to be set from next year. She ordered the development of a part of the garden at Raj Bhawan as the Beehive Block. A workshop would also be organised for bee keepers, here, once every year. Farmers who excel at bee keeping would be invited to this workshop.
Governor Maurya said that honey production could play an important role in increasing the income of farmers. Mentioning that today was Earth Day, she pointed out that honeybees play an important part in environmental and ecological conservation.
Chief Horticulture Officer Dr Meenakshi Joshi, i Deepak Purohit and NS Bisht were among those present.
