Dehradun, 14 June: Heatwave prevailed for the second day today in parts of the state. Dehradun for the second day today recorded maximum temperature of over 38 degrees C. The mercury touched 38.44 degrees C in Doon today, even as reports are coming across from various parts of the state regarding raging forest fires.
In the last six days, more than 171 cases of forest fires have been registered, while in the last 24 hours, 34 fires have broken out in Garhwal, 41 in Kumaon and three in protected wildlife areas. 98 hectares of forest area has been damaged in the incidents of forest fire. Along with this, the economic loss of two lakh 30 thousand rupees was assessed.
With the scorching heat in the state, there has been a sudden spurt in the incidents of forest fires. In the last 24 hours, 78 incidents of forest fires were registered, which is the highest number of incidents recorded in a day. The forest fire figure has reached 647 in the state.
For the last few days, an increase in temperature is being recorded daily. Along with this, incidents of forest fires have also started increasing in the state.
