Dehradun, 19 Mar: In accordance with the instructions of Chief Electoral Officer Dr BVRC Purushottam, special vigilance is being enforced along with strengthening of the monitoring system in all the districts to conduct safe and peaceful voting.
In this regard, after the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct, illicit liquor, drugs, unauthorised cash and other materials worth more than Rs 60 lakhs have been confiscated by various enforcement agencies between 16 and 18 March.
State Nodal Officer (Election Expenditure Monitoring), Manmohan Mainali shared that, from 1 to 18 March, illegal liquor, drugs, unauthorised cash and other materials worth more than Rs 7.68 crores have been seized. In a recent major action, drugs worth Rs 3.34 crores were seized in Haridwar district on 11 March.
It is worth noting that the Election Commission of India has currently implemented the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) for the enforcement agencies engaged in election duty to ensure safe and fair conduct of the election process. More than 20 agencies including Excise, Police, Income Tax Departments are involved in this ESMS. Most of the enforcement actions and confiscation related reports are being filed on a daily basis. The enforcement agencies of all the districts are recording their actions in this ESMS software. This then is being directly monitored by the Election Commission of India and the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttarakhand.
