Information Security Day celebrated at ONGC HQs

DEHRADUN, 14 Dec: Keeping in view the existing and emerging cyber-crime threats, one day of the Security Awareness Week, 14 December, was celebrated as Information Security Day at ONGC Headquarters, here, to spread awareness on Information Security and its importance.
Before commencing the programme, Nitya Nanda Panging, Deputy Manager-Fire Services, gave a safety briefing.
The programme was began with the ONGC song, following which Chief Guest Barinderjit Singh, IPS, was welcomed by Preeta Pant Vyas, ED-HCA, ONGC.
Barinderjit Singh is SSP, STF and Cyber Crime, Uttarakhand. He delivered a talk on Information and Cyber Security and its importance nowadays. The speech was very informative.
Singh pointed out that, these days, the use of online transactions had increased manifold and the cyber threats had also increased as new methods of cybercrime were being introduced every day. He said that for organisations like ONGC, which handle sensitive data, awareness about cyber security was very important. He also urged people not to download unnecessary apps on the mobile phones, as unauthorised apps invite cyber threats. He also shared some personal experiences about suspicious phone calls. He wanted such awareness programmes to be organised regularly, as new methods of cybercrimes were being constantly developed. The use of mobile phones by children had to be discouraged, particularly the games. He also shared a soft copy of a handbook for Adolescents/Students on Cyber Safety published by MHA.
Vyas stated that ONGC celebrated Security Awareness Week across all ONGC Work Centres and ONGC companies during 13-19 December 2018, with an objective to sensitising all ONGCians and their family members about the changing security environment and to remain vigilant about emerging threats and vulnerabilities at all times.
The event proceeded further with a Cyber Security talk on Bank/ATM related frauds by domain expert Ved Prakash Thapliyal, Sub-Inspector, Cyber Crime Police Station, Dehradun.
The programme was attended by a huge gathering including senior ONGC officials Narayan Raman, GM(E&T), SC Jhaldiyal, DGM(HR), Rajneesh Badoni, DGM(E&T), Ajay Manohar Kumar, DGM (HR)-IR and SS Rawat, DGM(Logistics).
The programme was coordinated by Security Services, Infocom Services and Human Resource Group, Dehradun, and was anchored by Bharat Kamble, EE(IE).
