Mussoorie, 2 Jan: The Mussoorie Sports and Cultural Committee recently gave a grand welcome to St Lawrence High School’s sports coach and international referee Samuel Chandra, here, on his return after representing India as a football player in the VWFF World Cup Football Competition organised in Thailand. On this occasion, Samuel Chandra was felicitated with a shawl and memento by the Committee at a programme organised at a local hotel.
It was stated that Samuel Chandra has brought fame not only to Mussoorie but to the entire Uttarakhand and the country. Today, even in adverse circumstances, he has made his mark at the international level.
Speakers also expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of sports grounds in Mussoorie. No work has been done on the Bhilaadu Stadium by the government.
Talking to journalists, Samuel Chandra expressed his gratitude to the committee. Such acts inspire people to perform better. Having participated at the international level, he would definitely give the benefit of this to the students. He said that, so far, 278 students from his school have competed at the national level and his dream is that they compete at the international level as well. He said that soon he is looking forward to competing at the international level in the Masters’ Departmental Athletic Meet. He also stated that effort is being made to promote blind football at the international level. He regretted that, recently, the Winter Line Carnival was organised but hardly any sports activities were held. There is no sports ground in Mussoorie either.
On this occasion former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola, Surendra Rana, Arvind Sonker, Rajiv Aggarwal, Sandeep Aggarwal, Sunil Panwar, Parvinder Rawat, Suresh Goyal, Tehmina Khan, Narendra Kumar and many others were also present.
