Dehradun, 31 Jan: Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj today instructed the Secretary of the Women Empowerment and Child Development Department, Hari Chandra Semwal, to extend the date of application for “Nanda Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana” for a period of one month.
Minister of Panchayati Raj, Tourism, Public Works, Irrigation, Rural Works, Watershed, Endowments and Culture, Satpal Maharaj issued these instructions during a meeting.
It may be recalled that, due to the strike of the Gram Panchayat Development Officers in protest against functional merger of two cadres, many of the necessary documents of the applicants applying for “Nanda Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana” could not be prepared by the department. Now, that the Gram Panchayat Development Officers (VPDOs) have withdrawn their strike following the stay on the decision of merger of their cadre with the Gram Vikas Adhikaris (VDOs), the work in the Gram Panchayat department has again come back to routine. However, in view of the strike, Maharaj directed the department to extend the last date for the receipt of applications under Nanda Gaura Devi by one month.
Maharaj said that the pace of work in Panchayats should be increased so that the Sustainable Development Goals could be achieved on time. He also thanked Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for staying that had led to functional merger of Gram Panchayat Development Officers and Village Development Officers.
