DEHRADUN, 29 Jan: On the first day of the National Games, Haryana’s Ramita set a new qualification record in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event, scoring 634.9 points. This impressive performance was witnessed at the newly-built, high-tech shooting range of Maharana Pratap Sports College, which proved its worth alongside Ramita‘s skill.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday praised the high-quality equipment provided for the National Games, expressing hope that athletes from across the country will set new records in Uttarakhand. He extended his best wishes to all participants.

The Indian shooting team’s assistant coach, Arun Singh, observed that the previous qualification record of 637.7 points was set at the World Cup Championship in Bhopal. Ramita‘s new record has surpassed this by two points. She will compete in the event final on Thursday, where another chance to excel awaits.
The Maharana Pratap Sports College shooting range, lauded for its ultra-modern high-tech equipment, boasts of 160 targets, making it the third largest shooting range in India after Delhi and Bhopal. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to foster more record-breaking performances.
Ramita, who has represented India in the Paris Olympics and reached the last eight, likened the shooting range in Dehradun to that of Paris, contributing to her stellar performance. She also expressed her fondness for Uttarakhand and looks forward to exploring the natural beauty of the region after her final match.
Ramita, a B. Com Honors student from Hansraj College, Delhi, hails from Haryana and has been competing in shooting events since 2015 and continues to make significant strides in her sport.
