Mussoorie, 1 Apr: Former Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ called on Author and Padma Bhushan awardee Ruskin Bond, here, today. On this occasion, he had a discussion with Bond on many aspects related to literature. He also sought Ruskin Bond’s support for the construction of a ‘Lekhak Gaon’ in the Himalayas. Nishank said that a “writer’s village” is being envisioned in the Himalayas. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s dream of giving respect to writers is being implemented by the government. He said that, by uniting the writers, their creative talent would be put before the whole world and can be put to the use of the society, for which a Lekhak Gaon would serve the purpose. He would meet writers from across the state and take their suggestions.
Nishank added that Ruskin Bond has made Uttarakhand and the country proud. Nishank stated that those writers who have dedicated their entire lives to creative work but are in the last stages of their lives, should not feel alone. The writers’ village would provide solace in the last phase of their lives. The best writers of the country and the world could also come to write on culture, environment, nature, etc., of the Himalayas. Efforts would be made to connect today’s young writers with the Village so that they too could contribute.
