Dehradun, 3 Mar: Despite heavy rains, a large number of people holding umbrellas turned up at the Raj Bhavan to see the Vasantotsav which concluded on Sunday.
However, the heavy rains virtually poured cold water on the festival with many vendors complaining that they suffered losses.
The Raj Bhavan remained adorned with vibrant hues and melodies as the festival showcased the rich heritage and cultural diversity of Uttarakhand.
Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) had inaugurated the festival on Friday.
Initiated in 2007, the ‘Spring Festival’ has become a beloved tradition, symbolising renewal, rejuvenation, and the promise of vibrant colourful flowers. This year’s festivities commenced with an enchanting procession featuring folk dancers, musicians, and artisans, captivating attendees with their colourful attire and exquisite craftsmanship. The aroma of fresh flowers wafted through the air, mingling with the sounds of laughter and joy echoing through the gardens of the Raj Bhawan.
But the flowers bore the brunt of the rains which continued since last evening. “We also suffered some losses due to rains,” said a gardener of the Rajeshwari Nursery of the Cabinet Minister, Satpal Maharaj.
PK Gupta said, “As a local from Dehradun, I’ve always looked forward to this festival, and I must say, it never disappoints. Despite the rains, we enjoyed ourselves at Raj Bhavan.”
