DEHRADUN, 2 Jan: State Government employees took a day’s leave, today, and staged a dharna in support of the demand to be provided allowances at par with Central Government employees.
The protest was held under the banner of the ‘Uttarakhand Adhikari Karmchari Samanvay Manch’. Officials and employees of various departments gathered at the Parade Ground and held a demonstration in support of their charter of demands. Speakers declared that their problems had not been solved despite repeated agitations, which had increased resentment among them all. The government did not seem serious about their demands.
They wanted allowances on par with central government allowances and, at least three promotions. The health card facility, too, had to be similar to that for central government employees. This would allow them to utilise the services of the best hospitals. They also wanted the old pension scheme to be implemented. It was also demanded that retiring employees be transferred to their home districts a year before retirement. The meeting was attended by employees from all parts of the state.
