Bengaluru, 12 Apr: Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan participated in an international conference under the Group C20 of G20 held in Bengaloru.
The International Conference of Group C20 of G20 was organised in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, in which Khanduri and spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar formally inaugurated the conference by lighting the lamp as the Chief Guests.
She delivered her address to the C20 Working Group on the topic, “Delivering Democracy – Retrospective and Prospective”.
The Speaker began his address with a verse from the Atharva Veda, “Samanima Sahyonnabhag: Samane yokte sahvo yunjmi time saparya tara nabhimikabhitah”. While doing so, she gave the message of unity and working together in the interest of the country.
Describing the strength of democracy, she spoke about Shyam Sharan Negi, the first voter from Himachal Pradesh of independent India, who participated in all the elections in his life.
Khanduri added that Indian democracy is strong. India is the largest democracy in the world and has been running successfully for almost 73 years. The constitution is the longest in the world, in which important fundamental rights have been ensured. The Indian Constitution is the foundation of democracy, which is based on the principles of universal liberty, justice, equality and fraternity.
She talked about giving opportunities to women in politics. She said that mother power is an important force in politics which promotes the rights of women in society. Women should be encouraged to be actively involved in politics which gives them a chance to be more involved in leading society. Without matriarchy, the role of women in politics is betrayed and they do not have the enthusiasm to fight for their rights. Therefore, it is important to give women equality on the political stage.
Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Gram India Founder Dr Bala Subramaniam, Sherpa, Civil 20, Kiran DM, Hans Seidl Foundation’s Usha Subramaniam, National Coordinator, Working Group, Dr Basava Raju were present at the conference.
