MUSSOORIE, 10 Jun: The Mussoorie Municipal Council has started work on opening all the drains lying closed in Mussoorie before the monsoon season so that there is no problem during the rains.
Municipal Executive Officer Ashutosh Sati has said that his first priority is to clean and open all natural and constructed drains before the rains. He said that during heavy rains, due to blockage, water-logging causes huge damage to the shops and houses on the Mall Road. He said that the officials of the municipality had been instructed to identify all the blocked drains and open them. He said that during inspection, it was seen that the electricity and drinking water departments have put their lines along many drains, due to which these were getting blocked. He said that public participation is necessary to make Mussoorie clean and beautiful. People should be aware about not putting garbage and rubble into the drains. If they do, cases would be filed against them under various sections of the Municipal Act.
