DEHRADUN, 4 Jan: A two-day nationwide strike is planned on 8 and 9 January against the ‘anti-worker’ policies of the Union Government. Addressing a press conference here, today, Member of the Uttarakhand Joint Trade Unions Coordination Committee and State INTUC President Hira Singh Bist declared that opposition would be expressed to the anti-worker decisions being taken by the Government on a regular basis. Ever since it had come to power, all the labour laws were being watered down against the interests of workers.
He alleged that the nation’s largest trade union, INTUC, was being deliberately being kept out of bilateral and trilateral committees, including the international level. The state government had only included the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh in the Minimum Wages Advisory Board constituted to revise wages, and excluded every other union. Such a discriminatory approach would not be tolerated at all.
He alleged that equal pay was not being paid for equal work. This was against the Supreme Court’s directions. No attention was being paid to the interests of anganwadi, MNREGA, domestic workers. Representatives of INTUC, CITU, AITUC, school, tea garden, press, school, hotel, engineering and chemical industry unions were deliberately being kept out of representative and consultative bodies.
Present on the occasion were Jagmohan Mendiratta, Samar Bhandari, AP Amoli, Virendra Bhandari, Ashok Sharma, Devendra Singh Rawat, Dheeraj Bhandari, VS Negi, Sohan Singh Rajvar, etc.
