Fake Aadhaar & PAN Card racket busted in Rudrapur, 1 arrested

Rudrapur, 18 Feb: Incidents relating to the preparation of fake Aadhaar cards continue to surface in Uttarakhand. In yet another such case, Udham Singh Nagar Police, in coordination with the Special Task Force (STF), has busted an illegal operation running under the garb of a Jan Sewa Centre in the Transit Camp police station area. The centre was allegedly engaged in preparing fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and educational certificates.

SSP, Udham Singh Nagar, Ajay Ganpati, disclosed the details of the case before the media and stated that the accused was operating the illegal activity under the cover of a public service centre. He stated that Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and educational certificates were being prepared through unlawful means. Acting on specific information, the police team raided the premises and apprehended one youth from the spot and also recovered a large quantity of forged documents and equipment used in the operation, from the shop.

According to the police, information was received from an informer that a Jan Sewa Centre located on Machhli Market Road was involved in the preparation of fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and educational certificates. Initially, the police conducted discreet verification of the inputs. After confirmation of the information, a joint team of Udham Singh Nagar Police and the STF carried out a raid at the centre.

During the raid, it was found that fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and fabricated educational certificates were being prepared illegally at the shop. In connection with the case, Chetan Kumar, aged 21, son of Rajpal and a native of Patwai Thana in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh (UP), was arrested. He is presently residing in the Transit Camp police station area of Udham Singh Nagar.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he used the PIXELLAB application to edit customers’ photographs, names and addresses to prepare forged documents. These fake documents were allegedly used by individuals to secure employment in companies located in the SIDCUL industrial area.

On searching the shop and the accused’s mobile phone, the police recovered a large number of digital copies of fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and mark sheets. Fake mark sheets were also found being prepared on a computer screen. The police seized one printer, monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse, biometric scanner, 40 fake Aadhaar cards, 53 fake PAN cards, forged mark sheets, photocopy paper and one mobile phone from the spot.

A case has been registered against the accused at Transit Camp Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have appealed to the public to refrain from getting fake documents prepared or using them, and to immediately report any suspicious activity. The Police also warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in such unlawful activities.
