Women’s Delegation calls on SSP Dehradun
Garhwal Post Bureau
Dehradun, 5 Mar: A delegation of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress leaders, led by State Mahila Congress President Jyoti Rautela, called on Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, Pramendra Dobhal and demanded registration of cases against those tarnishing the image of the Congress party and its senior leaders through fake AI-generated posts on social media.
In the memorandum submitted to the SSP, State Congress President Jyoti Rautela stated that defaming the Congress party and its senior leaders through fake AI-generated posts on social media is an extremely serious and worrying matter. She claimed that, at present, certain pages and groups on the social media platform Facebook, including ‘Dhakad Dhami’, ‘Vasooli Abhiyan Morcha’, ‘Sanatani Dhami’ and ‘Dhami Ki Dhamak’, are making a planned effort to continuously tarnish the image of the Congress party and its leaders. She further claimed that, through these pages, objectionable, misleading, fake and hate-filled content is being disseminated, in particular by misusing modern technology and artificial intelligence (AI), false, fabricated and misleading content. This is being created taking the support of a particular religion to strike at the prestige of the Congress party. Such content can create confusion, enmity and communal tension in society, which is extremely harmful for social harmony and law and order.
The Congress memorandum also claimed that the image of the Congress State President Ganesh Godiyal and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat is also being tarnished in this manner on social media. In this regard, written complaints have been lodged by them, but no concrete action has been taken to date. This, the party asserted, is boosting the morale of anti-social elements, who are continuously promoting such illegal activities. The acts being carried out by these anti-social elements not only violate the provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code, but are also against democratic values, political decorum and social unity.
Rautela demanded that the aforementioned Facebook pages and the individuals associated with them be swiftly, impartially and thoroughly investigated and that complaints be registered against them under the relevant sections of the IT Act, ensuring strict legal action as per rules. She expressed confidence that the police administration, understanding the seriousness of the matter, will take prompt and impartial action in the above case.
The Mahila Congress further stated that, if appropriate and effective action is not taken within 15 days on the complaint letter, the Uttarakhand Mahila Congress would be compelled to sit outside the state police headquarters for an indefinite dharna-demonstration in a democratic manner, for which the entire responsibility will lie with the administration.
Those who were present on this occasion included State Vice-President Asha Manorama Sharma, City President Urmila Thapa, General Secretary Nidhi Negi, Chandrakala Negi and other Congress office-bearers.
