“No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow” – English Proverb

After the freezing winter of Doon snug spring is here to make the soul smile! After months of cold weather and dreariness of winter, spring time brings with it a sense of renewal and rejuvenation. The colourful flowers, the chirping of birds is a huge relief for the shivering soul; not only is the sun shining but you actually feel the snug warmth of that big yellow ball in the sky. The message from the heavens is loud and clear– no heavier woolens, gloves and skull caps. The time has  come to hand over your winter coats, jackets and pullovers to the neighborhood ‘dry-clean wala’  and start bringing out the light cottons and sandals as we embrace the sunshine spring season.

Spring comes in between two extreme weather seasons – harsh winter and searing summer. That’s why this beautiful season brings us the ideal temperatures to pursue cool outfits and still enjoy comfy evenings curled up in a fluffy blanket. The weather might still be a little dodgy coming out of winter, but if there’s a glimmer of sunshine, embrace it by working out and spending time in the wonderful spring weather. During my morning jog I observe the gardens of houses lined along the road popping Cherry blossoms, Jarcandas, Bougainvilleas, Amaltas and Gulmohars, adding colour and life to a previously barren landscape. Already, I see hordes of cyclists huffing and puffing on the steep Rajpur Road every day. On Sundays, their presence is manifold. It’s wonderful to celebrate the new season by going outdoors and feeling the rush of the spring air in your lungs.

However, for Doonites, one of the more challenging aspects of spring weather is its unpredictability. While it is season of renewal it is also a time of transition. One day may be sunny and warm while the next day could bring rain and thunderstorm. This makes it important for people to stay alert and be prepared for sudden changes in weather. Thanks to spring, we’re able to enjoy longer days and shorter nights. That’s why spring is a perfect season to start a new hobby or project. Have you ever thought about yoga or gardening? Wait no more. Springtime signifies rebirth and new growth, so it’s the perfect time to get your hands a little dirty in the mud by digging and planting fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers in a garden. By the time summer rolls around (it is not too far) you’ll be able to fully enjoy both the figurative and literal fruits of your hard work.

As I said earlier, if you look around, beautiful, colourful flowers are popping up everywhere. It’s an explosion of colours as pinks, gold, yellow, red and many other hues completely invade our senses. Also, trees have got a fresh green look with its own blooming going on. In this season, everything seems to be waking up. Ponder on the new life, positivity and growth that spring represents. ‘Rainer Maria’ has rightly said – “It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart!”
