NEW DELHI, 28 Mar: Uttarakhand Congress expanded its ranks by inducting six prominent leaders, including three former MLAs, a former mayor, and a former municipal council chairperson, into the party. The induction ceremony, held in Delhi, served as the backdrop for a major claim by Uttarakhand on this occasion, Congress State In-Charge Kumari Selja, claimed that the recent expansion of the Pushkar Singh Dhami cabinet was a direct result of the fear of potential defections. She alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) had become aware of several of its leaders planning to switch to the Congress, and to prevent this number from increasing and to protect the party from further damage, the Dhami government was forced to carry out a Cabinet expansion in a state of haste.
Addressing the current situation in Uttarakhand, Kumari Selja stated that the public is well aware of the prevailing conditions and that a sense of mistrust towards the BJP government has spread among the people. She highlighted frequent reports of deteriorating law & order across various locations and claimed that corruption is rampant under the BJP administration. Selja remarked that the Congress is now a transformed and revitalised party that is growing stronger by the day, attracting leaders from other political outfits as well as socially active individuals who wish to join its cause.
The State In-Charge further noted that the party is consistently raising issues concerning the common man and is fighting for the public’s rights from the streets to the legislative assembly. She contended that the BJP is currently on the backfoot in Uttarakhand, particularly citing public anger over atrocities against women during its rule. Asserting that there is a new sense of enthusiasm within the Congress and that work is being carried out diligently at the grassroots level, Selja declared that the party is prepared to contest the upcoming assembly elections with its full strength and resources, promising that the results of this change will be visible to everyone in the near future.
