Dehradun, 9 Apr: The Swachhta Week campaign being conducted by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) under the directives of the Directorate of Urban Development, Uttarakhand, entered its third day today with extensive cleanliness and public awareness activities across the city.
As part of this campaign, special drives were carried out at freedom fighter parks, memorials, major intersections, public and community toilets, transport hubs such as ISBT and the railway station, along with other important locations in Dehradun. As per the scheduled programme, cleanliness and awareness activities were successfully organised at Tilak Park, Kedar Park, Shaheed Park, ISBT, Dehradun Railway Station, Gandhi Park, MDDA Park and Defence Colony Park among others.
A special mega campaign was also held at Pandit Deendayal Park in Ward 21, which was also attended by Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal (IAS), Councillor Rohan Chandel, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Rajbir Singh Chauhan, chief sanitation inspectors, newly appointed sanitation inspectors and sanitation workers.
On this occasion, three sanitation workers were honoured under the Atal Nirmal Nagar Puraskar Yojana for their exemplary contribution. Anju, wife of Jayprakash from Ward 33, Kalp, son of Ram Singh from Ward 25, and Sonu, son of Satpal from Ward 52, were each awarded Rs 10,000 in recognition of their outstanding work. The initiative aims to encourage excellence in sanitation services and inspire other workers to follow suit.
It may be recalled that the campaign is being run under the theme “Svechchha Se Swachhta – Maha Abhiyan”. It seeks to promote public participation, encourage waste segregation at source and work towards making the city clean and beautiful. Doon Nagar Nigam administration has appealed to all citizens to actively participate in the Swachhta Week campaign, maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and contribute to keeping the city clean.
