‘Gayiki Ki Ganga: Lata Mangeshkar’ – book by Dr Indrajeet Singh released at DLRC

Dehradun, 12 May: Doon Library and Research Centre, (DLRC) today organised the release of the book “Gayiki Ki Ganga: Lata Mangeshkar” written by noted educationist and litterateur Dr Indrajeet Singh.

The book was formally released by Chief Guest Anil Raturi (former DGP), programme chair and lyricist Dr Buddhinath Mishra, former Vice-Chancellor Dr Sudha Rani Pandey, Dr Sushil Upadhyay, Principal of KV, Raiwala, Rita Indrajeet Singh, and Dr Surjeet Singh, Chairman of the Minority Education Authority. The programme was held at the Centre’s auditorium.

On the occasion, Dr Sudha Rani Pandey said that the book is dedicated to Bharat Ratna awardee and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and is an important contribution to Indian film music literature. She said that through deep sensitivity and powerful expression, the author has beautifully captured the divine musical essence of Lata Mangeshkar and presented a valuable research-oriented work for music and literature lovers.

Author Dr Indrajeet Singh said that, in Lata Mangeshkar’s extraordinary singing, “the buds of words bloom into flowers and spread fragrance in all directions”. He added that the greatest quality of her singing was her ability to completely absorb the meaning and emotions of every song and express them with purity and perfection.

Programme chair Dr Buddhinath Mishra said, “Lata Mangeshkar is like the Veena of Goddess Saraswati, whose resonance lives in the hearts of all lovers of melody. The words she touched with her voice bloomed like Brahma Kamal flowers.

Chief Guest Anil Raturi also spoke about the unmatched musical contribution and timeless singing of Lata Mangeshkar. He said, “While the subject Indrajit Singh has written about seems simple, it is truly challenging. While music is a product, its creation process is a distinct and important one. This book is undoubtedly a magnificent work, perfectly capturing Lata’s personality, her journey in music, and her artistic journey.”

During the programme, singers Alexander, Piyush Nigam, Manisha Ale and Kitty presented memorable songs of Lata Mangeshkar from films such as Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Anpadh, Kranti and Madhumati, winning the hearts of the audience.

The programme was conducted by educationist and writer Dr Sushil Upadhyay. At the beginning of the event, Chandrashekhar Tewari, Programme Officer of Doon Library and Research Centre, welcomed the guests and introduced the dignitaries present on the stage. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks.

Among those present on the occasion were Information Commissioner Radha Raturi, writer Jiten Thakur, Colonel Amardeep Singh, Dolly Dobral, Dr Lalima Verma, VK Dobhal, Harihar Yadav, Seema Shafaq, Sundar Singh Bisht, Shivmohan Singh, along with writers, litterateurs, music lovers and young readers.
