Dehradun, 12 Aug: Dehradun’s district administration has claimed that a significant initiative has been undertaken to make disaster management here more robust and effective under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the direction of District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan. The officials remind that to deal efficiently with heavy rainfall and other emergency situations, high-definition PTZ (Pan, Tilt and Zoom) cameras are being installed in sensitive disaster-prone areas and major tourist sites.
The district administration has arranged for round-the-clock real-time monitoring through these cameras at Sahastradhara, Karligad and Guchhupani, with access provided at the District Disaster Operation Centre (Disaster Control Room) for continuous surveillance of the identified areas. Installation of PTZ cameras at Maldevta is also in progress.
District Magistrate (DM) Ashish Chauhan has asserted that these advanced cameras would enable immediate detection of sudden rises in water levels, unusual activities or any disaster situation. This would help in timely assessment of potential threats and facilitate rapid commencement of relief and rescue operations. At the same time, tourist activities and safety at prominent sites can also be closely monitored after the installation of the high-tech cameras.
The DM also shared that, in the initial phase, cameras have already been installed at Karligad, which is considered sensitive from the disaster management perspective. Given the heavy tourist footfall at Sahastradhara, Maldevta and Guchhupani, surveillance systems are being strengthened in these areas as well. He emphasised that real-time monitoring of sensitive zones using modern technology is a priority for the district administration.
