Dehradun, 17 Sep: Though the government asserts that the murderers of Ankita Bhandari are convicted and are behind bars, various political and social organisations continue to hold protests demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari. These organisations have once again raised their voice over the Ankita Bhandari murder case, announcing a massive protest and human chain formation in Dehradun tomorrow to mark four years since the incident. Under the banner of Ankita Nyay Yatra Samyukt Sangharsh Manch, more than 40 organisations have extended support to the call for a tribute meeting and demonstration at Gandhi Park, demanding justice and accountability in the case.
Activist Kamla Pant said that despite four years having passed, Ankita has not received complete justice and the family, the people of Uttarakhand and organisations associated with the struggle continue to seek answers. She stressed that the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) probe and the subsequent proceedings have left crucial questions unresolved, and that any investigation must aim not merely to complete a formal process but to bring the truth to light and ensure every guilty person is brought within the ambit of law. Environmentalist Ravi Chopra has also extended his support to tomorrow’s protest.
The organisations have further questioned why action has not been taken against those who had ordered a bulldozer at the resort to destroy evidence, including a local legislator and a former block president, and why they have not been brought under investigation. They also raised concern that nine months after the CBI probe was ordered, the investigation is yet to begin. Further objections have been voiced over the acceptance of an FIR filed by an environmentalist as the basis for the CBI inquiry, while ignoring the letter submitted by Ankita’s parents to the Chief Minister.
The Samyukt Sangharsh Manch stated that, if the public still has to raise its voice for justice after four years, it reflects a grave failure of governance. They emphasised that the sensitivity and sentiments of the people must be taken seriously by the government and administration. The organisations reiterated that the names of alleged VIPs linked to the case remain untouched, fuelling public anger and distrust.
These organisations have further declared that tomorrow they will gather in Dehradun to form a human chain and hold a tribute meeting, pressing for complete justice for Ankita Bhandari and demanding that unanswered questions be addressed without delay.
