Dehradun, 3 Dec: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), celebrated annually on 3 December, highlights the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and empowerment for people with disabilities. The theme for 2024, “Empowering Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive World”, emphasises breaking barriers and building a society that values diversity and equal opportunities for all. It is a day to recognise the contributions of persons with disabilities and advocate for their rights.
To celebrate this day, Raphael Centre organised a fun filled fete for the students of Raphael and other regular and special schools.
Students from Oasis, Welham Girls, Aasra Trust, Laxmi Devi Academy, Doon Girls and Gyananda School came to take part in the fun. As they arrived, they were given a brief introduction to the need and importance of the day, not just for the persons with disability but for a truly inclusive society that leaves no one behind.
There were many games to enjoy ranging from Coin the Bangle, Smile on the Balloon, put the bindi, smash the target, and many more. The highlight of the event were the inclusive games especially designed to promote understanding, empathy and mutual respect. The variety of activities ensured that there was something for everyone, making the fête an inclusive event that encouraged participation from all members of the school community. These activities not only entertained but also promoted teamwork and sportsmanship among participants, fostering a sense of camaraderie. Furthermore, the students of Raphael Centre assisted in running a number of activities and food stalls as a part of the event. The food stalls which served snacks prepared by the students with assistance, also served as a platform for students to showcase their culinary skills, creating a sense of pride and ownership in the event.
The enthralling day that witnessed the congregation of not only the Raphael students but students from so many different backgrounds, reached its culmination with a sense of satisfaction and triumph owing to all the joy it brought to everyone who was a part of it.
The day concluded in accordance with the year’s theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”. Raphael acknowledged and awarded its special workforce with a cash prize to all the people employed within and outside Raphael. The Council members commended and congratulated all of them for their commitment and diligence.
