Dehradun, 4 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for the approval of a modern rafting base station in Rishikesh under the Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment by the Union Government.
The Chief Minister stated that Rishikesh has established itself as a major destination for rafting. The new rafting base station, with an investment of Rs 100 crores, will significantly strengthen the infrastructure facilities for rafting activities. This development is expected to accelerate rafting activities in Rishikesh, benefiting the surrounding area through increased tourism. The project will include the development of toilets, changing facilities, and food stalls at rafting centres. Additionally, alternative routes will be constructed to reduce congestion in the Tapovan area. It is estimated that around 1,500 people will gain employment through this project.
Dhami asserted that the state government will fully cooperate in providing land for the scheme, with the project set to be completed within a stipulated time frame of two years. He observed that Uttarakhand holds a special place in the mind of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is why the state has received support at every level since Modi’s government came into power. He added that the examples include the Char Dham Yatra route, Karnaprayag railway line and development work at major pilgrimage sites. The approval of the Rs 100 crores development project for Rishikesh is another gift from Modi to the people of Uttarakhand, for which they are immensely grateful.
