Dehradun, 12 Dec: Director of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Saurabh Tiwari met Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Raj Bhavan here, today, and provided information about the ongoing campaigns and programmes in Uttarakhand.

During the meeting, the Governor emphasised that the Bureau of Indian Standards plays a crucial role in the areas of quality, standardisation, and consumer protection. He praised BIS’s work and stressed the need to connect it with industries, consumers, and educational institutions on a wider scale. The Governor suggested that BIS should organise awareness programmes to sensitise departmental officials, village heads, and students of schools and colleges about the importance of standards, ensuring that everyone can gain knowledge on this matter.

The Governor further stated that BIS should work on providing standards for local products, especially organic and traditional products from Uttarakhand. This step would help enhance the quality of these products and make them recognisable in both national and international markets. He also urged BIS to collaborate on the standardisation, quality, and value addition of products from women’s self-help groups.

On this occasion, Joint Director Shyam Kumar was also present.
