Amit Shah expresses satisfaction with progress in implementation of new criminal laws in U’khand

Dehradun, 24 Dec: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting in New Delhi today to discuss the implementation of three new criminal laws in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and senior officials from Uttarakhand were present during the meeting. Shah expressed satisfaction over the progress made in the implementation of three new criminal laws – BNS-2023, Indian Civil Defence Code-2023, and Indian Evidence Act-2023 in the state of Uttarakhand. He particularly praised the work done by the State Government and its speedy implementation. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami informed that technological integration, such as e-evidence, e-court and e-summons, has been successfully integrated in the state of Uttarakhand. The effective use of these technologies has made the justice system faster, transparent, and effective. Synchronization has been created between medical and legal processes through MedLEaPR.
Regarding the progress in the disposal of cases, it was informed that the courts have performed excellently in the speedy disposal of cases. The settlement of 41 percent of cases and the conviction rate is proof of an effective justice system.
It was also shared in the meeting that more than 23,000 police personnel and prosecutors have been successfully trained under training and manpower development for the successful implementation of the laws. Uttarakhand is the first state to prepare an AI (Artificial Intelligence) based course in Hindi language. Public awareness campaigns have been conducted regarding the new three laws. Programs like street plays, chaupals, and seminars were organized to promote social participation.
The Union Home Minister directed the state government to evaluate the cost savings from the implementation of online mechanisms. He also suggested increasing the number of video conferencing (VC) facilities in the state, so that the justice process can be made more accessible in remote areas.
During the meeting, Dhami requested support from the Government of India in the development of infrastructure required for the implementation of the three new laws. The Home Minister accepted the request and assured all possible assistance to the state.
The review meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary as well as the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Law), Secretary (Home), Director General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Uttarakhand Government. Director General BPRND (Bureau of Police Research and Development), officials of Ministry of Home Affairs and National Informatics Centre (NIC).
