Dehradun, 27 Dec: The nomination process for the municipal elections in Uttarakhand began today but the national parties, namely, BJP and the Congress have been unable to declare their candidates as of this evening.
Congress leaders continued to discuss the probable candidates even today as a high-level meeting of the party was held at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition here this afternoon in this regard.
Those who participated in the meeting included State Congress co-in-charge Surendra Sharma, Congress state president Karan Mahara, deputy leader of Congress Legislative Party, Bhuvan Kapri, former state party president Ganesh Godiyal, former state party president Pritam Singh, and former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat. It was also claimed that veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat is also likely to join the discussion. The party is continuously brainstorming on the names of the candidates for the civic elections. Congress state president Karan Mahara mentioned that a list of some names might be finalised by tonight. He also claimed that final decision has been arrived in most seats and wards.
The BJP has already submitted its panel of selected names on each ward of Municipal Corporations to the Party High Command and is waiting for its approval.
BJP MP Anil Baluni shared that for Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, the candidates would be announced at the state level itself.
