Dehradun, 2 Jan: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) and First Lady Gurmeet Kaur planted beautiful and delicate tulip bulbs in the Raj Bhawan premises, here, today.

The tradition of planting tulips at Raj Bhawan started in 2015, when 200 bulbs were planted as an experiment by the then Governor. Following the encouraging results of this initiative, more bulbs of new varieties have been planted every year. This year, 3800 tulip bulbs of 13 different varieties/colours have been planted, which will bloom by the time of Vasantotsav-2025. This year, 76 varieties of flowers will also be displayed for the public during the Vasantotsav.

The Governor described the planting of tulip bulbs as an important step toward enhancing natural beauty and raising awareness about biodiversity. He praised the Horticulture Department and mentioned that the Vasantotsav at Raj Bhavan not only showcases the natural beauty but also encourages innovation in the field of gardening. He also emphasised focusing on the commercial production of tulips. It is worth noting that during the annual Vasantotsav at Raj Bhavan, the diversity of tulip flowers remains a special attraction for visitors.

On this occasion, Finance Controller Dr Tripti Srivastava, Horticulture Officer Deepak Purohit, and others were also present.
