By Our Staff Reporter

Dehradun, 4 Feb: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Standard Club Carnival organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) here today. He inspected various stalls at the event and administered an oath to promote the purchase of ISI-marked products.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Dhami stressed on the role of BIS Standards Clubs in fostering awareness about quality, innovation, and scientific temperament among students. He emphasised that a nation’s economic growth, industrial development, and global competitiveness depend on the reliability and quality of its products and services. He reminded that, for the past 78 years, BIS has played a crucial role in ensuring standardisation, safeguarding consumer interests, and certifying industries, trade, and services.

Dhami stated that the first thing the consumers check while purchasing a product is whether it has an ISI mark. This mark assures quality and safety, reflecting the credibility of BIS and its commitment to consumers. He added that standards are not just technical guidelines but form the foundation of a nation’s development and self-reliance, impacting every citizen’s life.

Dhami noted that standardisation has expanded across multiple sectors, including agriculture, road transport, and healthcare. In Uttarakhand, BIS is working closely with departments like PWD, MDDA, UPCL, and Disaster Management, to raise awareness about standardisation and its importance.

He also emphasised the role of BIS in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, stating that Indian products should be known globally for their quality and reliability. Highlighting efforts to promote local products, Dhami mentioned the ‘House of Himalayas’ initiative, aimed at giving global recognition to Uttarakhand’s traditional goods like handicrafts, organic agricultural products, and medicinal herbs.

Local MLA Savita Kapoor praised the event, stating that such fairs provide valuable learning opportunities for students and contribute to national development.

Deputy Director General, BIS, Snehlata reminded that BIS is dedicated to consumer protection and educating children about standards. BIS Dehradun Director Saurabh Tiwari outlined the programme’s objectives, stating that the National Standards Bureau is committed to raising awareness and ensuring consumer safety.

The event saw participation from around 2,000 students from BIS-established Standard Clubs in various schools, who organised exhibitions and cultural performances. Additionally, representatives from 300 industries and voluntary organisations showcased their products, demonstrating the implementation of BIS standards in manufacturing.
