Dehradun, 27 Feb: The Health and Family Welfare Department in Uttarakhand is set to receive 276 new doctors soon. The State Medical Services Selection Board has issued a recruitment advertisement for backlog vacancies of medical officers. The last date for online applications has been set for 31 March 2025. Filling these backlog positions will help address the shortage of doctors in remote hill areas and provide better healthcare services at the local level.

Health and Medical Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat stated today that the state government had previously decided to fill the long-pending backlog vacancies of doctors in the Health and Family Welfare Department. As part of this initiative, the department sent a requisition to the State Medical Services Selection Board to recruit 276 Ordinary Grade Medical Officers under the Provincial Medical and Health Services Cadre. Following this, the Selection Board has now issued the recruitment advertisement.

Dr Rawat further elaborated on the category-wise distribution of these 276 backlog vacancies: Scheduled Caste (SC) – 183 posts; Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 6 posts; Other Backward Classes (OBC) – 59 posts; Economically Weaker Section (EWS) – Disabled Category: 4 posts; Unreserved – Disabled Category – 24 posts.

The online application process will commence on 11 March and the last date to apply is 31 March.

Dr Rawat emphasized that the recruitment of 276 doctors will significantly reduce the shortage of medical professionals in Uttarakhand’s hill districts and ensure that residents receive better healthcare services. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to appointing regular doctors in all medical units to provide quality healthcare to patients.

Additionally, he mentioned that the government is continuously working to strengthen healthcare services. Along with appointing doctors, the health department is also recruiting paramedical staff, pharmacists, and ANMs at the district and block-level hospitals while equipping medical units with modern medical equipment. These efforts will enhance medical facilities and ensure high-quality healthcare services at the local level.
