Dehradun, 6 Mar: IAS officer Vinod Kumar Suman, presently posted as Secretary, Disaster Management, in the state, has been empanelled for the post of Joint Secretary at the Centre. Importantly, Suman is the first IAS officer promoted from PCS to IAS after the formation of the state, whose nomination has been made for the Central Government. So far, only the directly recruited IAS officers from the state have been empanelled for a Central deputation.
Vinod Kumar Suman, a 2007 batch IAS officer, is one of the few promoted IAS officers to chosen for Central deputation as Joint Secretary. Besides dealing with disaster management, Suman is also handling responsibilities related to government estates, General Administration, and Protocol. Previously, he has held the roles of Secretary, Finance, Secretary in-charge Urban Development, Secretary, Cooperation, Secretary, Agriculture, and Secretary, Animal Husbandry. However, as the Secretary, Disaster Management, Suman has built up a reputation through good decisions and quick responses to the disasters and also through his hard work.
Born into a farmer’s family in Khanu village of Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, Suman has the distinction of being the longest-serving director in urban development since the state’s formation. He has also served as District Magistrate in Chamoli, Almora, and Nainital, and also held the posts of City Magistrate and Additional District Magistrate in Dehradun. Additionally, he was Secretary, MDDA.
